We've all seen it: a painting that faithfully depicts the scene being painted, but it lacks something, and we walk away from it without giving it a second thought. If it was our painting, we wonder why it didn't turn out better. Didn't we get everything right? Then we look at another person's painting of the same scene and think, "Wow, how did they get THAT from THAT?" The scene may have been ordinary, but the painting was extraordinary.
